What is hemp?
Hemp and Cannabis are the same plant;
however, no matter how much hemp you consume, you will feel no narcotic effect.
Hemp is any Cannabis plant that measures 0.3% or less (think: non-alcoholic
beer), and is often used for bird seed, fishing bait, ropes, and animal bedding.
Any international farmer who wishes to grow hemp may do so after obtaining
certain agricultural permits from the relevant government authorities.
Currently hemp is grown in mass quantities from China
all the way through Europe, and all over the Americas.
The plant pre-dates human civilisation and
only became separated from its psychoactive cousin, Cannabis, roughly a hundred
years ago. Ancient civilisations have used the plant for religious sacraments,
clothing, shelter, food, medicine and many more applications, most of which are
still promoted and enjoyed today. In fact, until the past two-hundred years,
hemp was the primary component of most cordage, paper and nautical
products.
Currently, consumers can enjoy hemp seed
and seed oil nutritional products, which also aid medicinal users in a
non-narcotic way, not to mention cosmetics as well. The stalks of the plant
produce two different fibres (bast fibres and hurds), both of which are used to make varying products usually
produced from fossil fuels and petrochemicals. For example, hemp plastic CD
trays, furniture, and computer speakers are available worldwide and have
slightly eased the burden of modern companies striving to produce “greener”
sports equipment such as snowboards, surfboards and skateboards.
If accessories are more your thing, hemp
skateboard shoes are simply the beginning. The College proudly displays all the
most modern hemp fashion designs and keeps consumers aware of the newest and
highest-quality hemp clothing producers around the world. We understand the
unfortunate stigma suffered by many in the hemp industry and therefore try to
showcase the more fashionable and wearable articles of clothing, not to mention
the most affordable. We will even explain why hemp products are so expensive!
